hello all.

Is it necessary to put column dimensions in the parameters? Are there any difference in the results if I don’t do that..(separation, resolution..)
I am using LC SOLUTION (shimatzu LC2010)

You should absolutely put the column dimensions in the parameters. All column information such as packing material, pore size, column dimensions, and manufacturer are important. A complete listing of mobile phases, flow rates, and column temperatures should also be included.

Your results won't change but others will not be able to reproduce your results without complete information about the analysis. Separation and resolution depend on the column parameters.

I hope it is not a misunderstanding her..
I think all those parameters are available in the logbook of the product…printed butches..archive.
What I mean is to put dimensions of the column in the LC solution method before performing analysis.
Now, we leave this parameter as default and we don’t change it for all methods, even when there is difference in the column length.
Can LC solution software have an automatic detection of the length???
I am a new HPLC user..and I am still learning English..Excuse me for my poor language.

Now I understand your question although I am unable to give an answer because I am not familiar with the Shimadzu instrument system you are using. Perhaps someone else can chime in with a response.

Why would you *not* want to put in the information? It is a good idea to include as much information as possible for documentation purposes.

Just I would like to know if system take in consideration column length for calculation of different parameters…retention time, resolution, peak wide….and putting in this information can change or not results.

If I understand your question correctly kamel then the answer is no, the software does not take into account the column dimensions when it performs calculations for resolution, peak width, etc. Therefore, it does not matter if you input the proper column dimensions. However, it seems that your software package intends for you to provide a documentation trail which - as Tom mentioned - is important and a good practice to follow.
