Issues with Reinstallation of ChemStation A.08.03

This particular group at the university had been running an Agilent 6890GC through a Win NT workstation. Hard drive crashed so it was replaced and Windows NT 4.0 (SP6) was re-installed, along with the drivers for the LAN card.

Upon trying to re-install the ChemStation (G2071AA), one gets the error "An online core must be purchased in order to install additional intrument modules". Click okay, program closes and nothing happens. Only thing I found related to this was that "Most probably, a previous version of the Agilent Chemstation was installed on the PC, but the CHEM32 directory subtree was deleted before setup. CHEMSTATION.INI still contains references to the deleted Agilent ChemStation installation in the [PCS] and [PCS,..] sections." Obviously refers to a different version of Windows and ChemStation but still, it's clearly not the case here since the hard drive was formatted (no references in the Win.ini file either).

Any thoughts at all would be appreciated - we're at a loss!

Is this happening when you're adding an instrument and plugging in the registration code?

Is 8.03 compatible with NT ? Check the agilent web site, there's a chart of what's been considered OK.

I must retract this topic. It has come to my attention that we were trying to install the wrong component first (i.e.; G2071 as opposed to G2070). The reason we didn't notice is because we have two yellow envelopes that are both G2071 and no G2070. Have no idea how this happened or where the original S/N went (this was installed in like 2000 previously). So now we're desperately trying to recover the original S/N from this broken hard drive but I fear it may be lost to unrecoverable sectors. :/

Well, I'll just post this in case someone ever looks for similar information. We were not able to access the hard drive but had a backup of the HPCHEM folder (not able to run anything, but able to view all files). We were able to find the license numbers under c:\HPCHEM\CORE\REGISTRY.LCT
