I want to analyze volatile organic compounds such as methanol, ethanol, methylene chloride, isopropanol, trichlorethylene, amongst others. I have a GC / FID with a Varian CP3380 Autosampler, some I can recommend the best column to achieve this purpose?, the column I wish I were not expensive. thanks a lot.

A selective column for many analytes you have mentioned may be found in capillary columns coated with a phase called OV-1301. There are many commercial versions available. Many are described as a 624 phase or as a 3% phenyl-3% cyanopropyl methyl silicone phase. This phase is commonly used to determine residual solvents in pharmaceutical matrices by headspace analysis.

Call or email a vendor of these columns with your exact needs and they will be able to guide you to a suitable column for your analysis.

best wishes
