Hi,
i am working with the 500 IT MS from Varian. I couldn't successfully tune the instrument today and i got the message "Trap frequency calibration failed". I never have such problem before, could some one tell me how to solve this problem?
Thanks

I know it's an old post, but maybe someone is still using the Varian 500-MS and has solved this problem before.
I've re-activated a Varian 500-MS and after several vacuum problem it's now running fine, except for the trap frequency calibration error. I looked for common reasons like He flow/pressure or RF ramp errors, but none of them are the reason. A misaligned trap is also mentioned, but it hasn't been disassembled since the last successful tuning.
Anyone here still using a 500-MS?

Yes, an old post but I'd be glad to share some knowledge with other Varian users.
I have the same error after a longer shutdown time without disassembling, so a misalignment is not possible.
He flow is OK, RF ramp is OK and even the Trapping Field Dipoles’s (TDF) are both at 100%.
However, Dipole Supplemental Waveform and Quadrupole Supplemental Waveform (when selected!) are at 97% and 99 %.
Anyone out there still using this MS?
