Convert Varian 3800 GC/MS to GC/FID

Discussions about GC and other "gas phase" separation techniques.

We've retired the MS detector on this GC. Would like to keep the GC and get at least one FID into it. We've done a lot of this sort of thing (take out TCD, add FID vice versa) with V3400 and V3600's.

I contacted our Varian rep re- this and he was pretty negative on it. Price he quoted was quite high (>$10,000). Don't know if the whole Agilent/Varian thing plays into this, ie - maybe some of the field service guys don't have a future.

Anyway, anyone have experience with this type of conversion?

We have set up several 3800 GC systems with FIDs -- if you have any specific questions or concerns regarding the FID installation, please feel free to let us know. We'd be happy to help. Also, may I ask what model the MS is you're planning to retire? If it's a Saturn 2000 ion trap, please let us know as we're interested in the parts.

Thanks for the reply US101. I'll contact you further through your website. Sorry, but the MS (V2200) is spoken for.
