I was wondering if anyone can suggest some analytical conditions for my analysis? I need to analyze for sodium benzenedodecyl sulfonate via HPLC. I realize Dionex offers a surfactant column, but this will likely be a one time analysis for me and I'd rather do it with a column we already have if possible, even if not the most optimal. It is a standard C18 150mm x 4.6mm ID column. I have a binary pump HPLC and diode array detector. If anyone could suggest a suitable wavelength and mobile phase conditions, I would greatly appreciate it. Many thanks!!

Hello
I developed an analytical method for sulfonic acid (dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid), the conditions are:
Mobile phase: acetonitrile / 0.1M ammonium acetate pH 5 (90/10)
Flow: 1.5 ml / min
UV detector: 224 nm
Column: Varian Pursuit C18
Solvent. Acetonitrile
Send me a mail, I can send you information on which to base my method, my mail is alsafj@hotmail.com.
I hope this information is useful.
regards

Sounds kind of high on ACN to me. I would be sure to check 3% up and down in ACN content to see that the retention time goes down and up.
Not counting doubt on Frasmx method... just offering another opinion. I haven't actually run this molecule on a commercial C18 column.
