Hi!

Several people in earlier strings on this site recommend replacing the vacuum tubing on a 1322a degasser with auto parts tubing. Does anyone have any more specifics like what is the inner diameter or whether the inner support coil in the hose is required or just nice to have?

Thanks!

I bought vacuum tubing at auto store of 5/32 i.d. and 7/64 i.d. for the 1050 degasser, can't remember if I used one or both, cost like $1 per foot. I did this as I was having trouble locating an Agilent part number. I've never had need to open an 1100 degasser.

I am not sure of the generic quality tubing obtained at the local auto store. For the degasser connections going to and from the unit, use highly crosslinked pure Teflon tubing only. You must minimize the gas diffusion rate through the tubing to maximize efficiency. I would suggest buying tubing from a vendor whom supplies details about the construction and quality of the tubing. Agilent is not the only company that sells tubing (but I am sure they sell the correct type).

This is about the black rubber tubing used to pull any diffused gases away from the vacuum chambers (to replace the original black rubber tubing used in factory degassers such as the 1050), NOT the permeable or inert tubing which the HPLC solvents actually travel through.

Ahhh, that makes sense.
