Mass Spec Ion Source Parts

Is there ever a time to replace ion source parts other than a broken or worn connector?

Some ion sources have heaters; and heaters can fail. Filaments are used up. Parts can be broken or lost. But other than that, I don't recall seeing parts replaced.
Having said that - I work with GC systems and there may be some part in LCMS that I've not seen.

In LC-MS you sometimes have to replace the probe capillary (if working in ESI mode) which can get clogged. If there is a cone/fragmentor at the entrance of the MS, you may want to replace it in case it is too dirty or broken. Otherwise there is little to do but frequently cleaning the source, as long as heating and voltages are ok.

Other than deeply scratched parts I don't change out many ion source parts. I have fine grit paper for polishing the parts if they scratch too much and can get them to a mirror finish. Mostly the repeller and drawout plate.
The electrical connector pin will wear but I know that can be replaced if so desired.
I figure the tune algorithm will take care of any changes in the shape of the parts.
