7673A controller, GPIB interface

Hello - I'm attempting to piece together a working system based around a 5890A and an ancient version of Chemstation, A.04.02. On the GC side I've got everything up and running but have run into some difficulties with the 7673A Autosampler. The existing 7673A/18549A controller is configured only with the INET interface and it appears that to get this talking to Chemstation I need GPIB (this is how the 5890A is interfaced to the computer). Can anyone point me towards a way to adapt this existing controller to GPIB? I see that people are selling this controller in a GPIB version on the internet so I'm assuming that there was once an Agilent/HP part - any suggestions? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

thanks-
Cary Martin

Turn off the power. Piggyback a second HPIB/GPIB cable onto either the HPIB/GPIB connector on the computer or the HPIB/GPIB on the back of the 5890. Turn GC, 18549A control box, and computer power back on. You'll need to add the autosampler HPIB "address" to the configuration before starting ChemStation, using HP Configuration Editor, part of the software. I'm at home now, believe the default 5890 address is "15", and that the autosampler default is 8. If you have an autosampler manual, it should show how to read the dip switches as the "address" is changeable. Then save changes, start up ChemStation.

See http://www.chem.agilent.com/Library/usermanuals/Public/G1513-90107.pdf for the manual

To clarify - my 18594A does not have a GPIB interface, and I need to either add one or adapt the existing INET interface to GPIB. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

caryjm,

The easiest solution is to add HPIB to the controller. I can get you in touch with people who sell them (contact me at aicmm at flash.net) or you can look on LabX or e-bay to see if you can catch one. They are not that common but they do pop up once in a while. (Make sure you see pictures of the back before you dive in.) Probably easier to just buy the whole box if you can.

Sorry for the bad news....

Best regards.

I've got a 18594-06110 HPIB board from a 7673 controller. If you cover the cost of shipping, you can have it. I will take some pictures of it tonight, and post them up, so you can make sure it is what you need. No guarantee that it will work...I don't think the HPIB from the controller was ever used, as the COM card was pulled and put into a different controller.

Here is that card:

Let me know if you need any info/numbers off of the card.
