Can someone please explain to me the importance of the pumpdown feature in an LCMS. What happens? Why is it useful? When should I pumpdown the LCMS? Is it supposed to be pumpdowned after you do regular maintenance like cleaning the spray chamber. Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,

the mass analyzer needs to be under vacuum so that the ions can reach the detector. When you perform maintenance, you have to open it, and before you need to vent it. Once it is clean, you must pump it down to get the vacuum again. Then, as long as you do not break the vacuum again, you don't need to "pump it down", the vacuum will remain constant.

Is it clearer like this?
