What is the difference when referring to an Extracted Ion Chromatogram and a Total Ion Chromatogram? Thanks.

In extracted ion, you "pull" only the data from the ions you select. For example, if two or more compounds co-elute, but only the species of interest has m/z of 299, you'd extract the 299 ion and quantitate from that. What is the difference when referring to an Extracted Ion Chromatogram and a Total Ion Chromatogram? Thanks.
