was hoping someone could help. what are the advantages of using GC over HPLC in analysis of petroleum ethers.

Look up the composition of petroleum ether and the answer should be easy if you consider the types of compounds each technique works well for.

Pet ether is volatile, so should be OK for GC testing.

thanks for ur response.

I know that obviously because the pet. ethers are volatile GC would be the better option i was wondering though if there were any other advantages to using this over HPLC :)

How would you detect petroleum ethers by GC?
How would you detect them by HPLC?

How complex a mixture is petroleum ether ?

How much resolution do you get from capillary GC vs (packed column) HPLC ?
