What "issues" are you concerned about? Agilent /HP systems are very rugged. We are running 5971s (mid-'90s vintage) to current. The earlier systems are out of service by Agilent, but parts are readily available from a number of 3rd party vendors with commonly replaced parts being manufactured.

Earlier than 5971s you may begin to run into compatibility issues with the operating system compatibility with Windows versions (in other words, when the PC crashes running an older operating system, you may be hard pressed to find a PC that will be compatible).

One of your main considerations should be service. If you have an older unit, you may be needing to go to 3rd party support depending upon whether Agilent will service the system (the Agilent fellow that replied may be able to help with this question). If you have the internal capability, then it would not be an issue.
