Hi there, I would like to ask all your comments on what do you think about using built in calibrant vs external calibrant to tune and optimise LCMS/MS instrumentations.

As far as I understand, built in calibrant and using autotuning to calibrate back the instrument is one of the most easiest and fastest way to tune back a LCMS/MS instrument.

However, there are times when external calibration is practiced; may I know how does external calibration works in term of retuning and reoptimising back the instrument's sensitivity and accuracy; say for example, mass error etc?

Or is external calibration literally means injection of known standards using column chromatography and checking the system stability and performance? ie OC or control standards.

I'm not sure how external calibration can tuned back the instrument; please advise. Thanks a lot.
