We got the method for assay using the refractive detector. Plates for method not good. New column 1800 plates per column, but fall to under the 1000 very quickly. Changing the method is not the option. Is there an alternative measure of column performance that could be justifiably used instead of the plates? I have not detailed column, mobile phase, etc as we cant change the method.

If plate number is part of the system suitability specfications, then the answer is "NO".
