I am thinking of branching out as a small vendor of chromatography supplies.
At present, my new company "RETENTION DEFICIT CHROMATOGRAPHY" can supply the following items.

Are you having trouble getting that perfect Z-bend in your autosampler needles?
Now you can purchase them pre-bent with just the right bend.
Available for Agilent/HP only.

Save time and money with custom-filled autosampler vials.
Skip the time-consuming and expensive sample prep process.
Available for GC or HPLC.
Please specify sequential numbers, random numbers, or blank labels.

Brilliant :salut:

How about instruments pre-installed with a minor routine problem that can be fixed by reference to the manual - comes with a memory stick programmed with a registration to Chromforum and a 2-line plea for help that gives absolutely no useful information ?

How about a method validation report with completely validated data, just fill in the name of the compound?

 And if changing the septum shifts your retention times and makes all the peaks inconveniently bigger, just send us the old septum and we will use our high speed CNC controlled autosamplers with mutilated needle tips to generate an exact copy that restores your gas flow rates and split ratio by duplicating the original leaks (please specify the carrier gas and fill in the on-line indemnity form if you are using hydrogen).

Now that is what I call GREAT MARKETING !

To avoid all messy and irreproducible results, I've found using the Agilent "Test Plot" option on the 5890GC as the default template, and just relabelling the peaks provides excellent consistency.

Bruce, you are absolutely correct, one time when there was a show and tell going on in a place where gas cylinders were banned I set up a GC with autosampler and FID, and set the method parameters so the autosampler injected, and then peaks appeared. My boss thought it was cheating, but most people didn't know the difference, and thought the peaks looked really good.
