oil-free compressed air to instrument air

HI All,
We need a dryer for compressor air to remove vapour. Most units seem to be large industrial scale. I will use 4-6 FIDs (3L/min max) to be safe. What do you use to remove water?
I have recently tried a membrane filter but the purge flow is relatively large and affects flow and I get cycling baseline and overworked compressor although FID signal was going down very nicely. We had a refridgerant dryer once but I read that desiccant dryers are more suitable for instrument air? Any ideas?
I take it that zero air generators are for already cleaned up air?
So what's the benefit in those over a normal indicating fuel gas filter?
Regards
