Suggestions while buying a refurbished HPLC

The funds alloted thru my research project are limited at this point, although sufficient for buying a refurbished HPLC machine. I am looking at a couple of websites (LabX is one) to order an HPLC.

Does anybody in here have any suggestions while choosing a machine.

All that I want is an HPLC machine with an autosampler and a UV detector.

How would you have gone forward to choose a machine from the 100's of willing sellers on Lab X ? some suggestions please.

Unless you have the skills to work on the system yourself (in which case, you probably wouldn't be asking the question!) I would look for two things:

1. A warranty and service agreement.

2. References from other customers of the seller to verify that they and and do stand behind what they are selling.

Note that "refurbished" is *not* the same as "used". It should mean that the instrument has been restored to "like new" condition.

Also something to think about - most newer instruments need a control/data acquisition software package (Empower/Chemstation/Chromeleon etc). Look for a packaged deal - computer preloaded with instrument interface software that goes along with the refurbished instrument Tom mentioned above.

There also was a recent thread here about a similar topic:
