might be a stupid question, but is it possible to prepare ammonium bicarbonate buffer @ pH 6.5? If so, how and is it stable?
Don't argue with an idiot... he will drag you to his level and beat you with experience!

The pKa of carbonic acid/bicarbonate is listed as 6.36, so you should be able to make a solution of ammonium bicarbonate and tweak the pH with a bit of ammonium hydroxide. It's not very stable when exposed to air, however, because the carbonic acid (H2CO3) goes away as CO2 over time. In a closed system (like inside a blood vessel) it can be stable.
