Hello all,

I have been thinking of getting a used sciex api 3000 for our lab. I was wondering what the software options are.

One used equipment dealer stated that a license for use (software? the system?) would cost $40,000

Here is an example: "
If you purchase this API 3000 S/N# D10620207 you will not have to pay the ABI $40,000.00 licensing fee nor have issues with them supporting it in the future. The system is a lease return ABI had through DLL, thus why the exemption for this serial number. "

I realize they are saying I don't have to pay for the license in this case, but I am wondering. I may decide to go with another ABI/Sciex instrument that may require a license.
I assume the license is for the software, (or is it to use the API 3000? Both?)

What of the older software that used to run these instruments on the Mac PowerPC?
This software is no longer supported. Would a licensing fee be applicable to the sale of a Mac with this software installed?

My only experience with MD Sciex/Applied biosystems was buying new.

We purchased a new API4000 (for the price of a reconditioned unit) bundled with the computer and Analyst software. The software comes with 2 user licenses which enabled our QA group to log on and audit data without interupting our use of the MS.

Having service agreements also gets you free software upgrades.

the 3000 is a bit long in the tooth these days, you may be better off looking at a 3200 or 4000.
