Dear all,

My team and I would like to buy a GC specifically for greenhouse gas (GHG) analysis, e.g. CO2, CH4, N2O... We received a quotation from Agilent but they just included many parts and asked us to config. We are no expert in the matter. I was wondering if anyone could offers some help in getting the right parts. Obviously, we would like to keep the cost down, but we will get whatever that's necessary. Thank you so much for your time! Price is in USD.

If you want to keep the cost down you need to be looking at other suppliers as well.

Your answer is very complicated. Even for a brand new, plunked on the counter instrument, I would have a few issues/questions about this configuration. For one thing, I do not see the need for a TCD. I personally have not had great luck with the Agilent methanizer, I have used ones I trust much more in my work. Then, if you go away from an Agilent methanizer, do you really need a TCD anymore (what is that quoted for here - high CO2?)

In general, you could save yourself some money by not buying brand new. You could save yourself some money by buying your own standards. You could save yourself some money by not buying their methanizer. Did you ask them to provide you with blending for standards? That could be why they have so many pressure controllers. You might be able to live with fewer pressure controllers.

If you asked for a Cadillac, you will not be paying Toyota prices. If you asked for a Toyota, then you can certainly trim this down.

Best regards,

AICMM
