ChromQuest V5.0 Activation

Discussions about GC and other "gas phase" separation techniques.

Hello,
We have an old, but perfectly working Trace GC Ultra. The only job it does is determining Beer ABV. The computer broke down recently. I have all of the original installation disks for ChromQuest V5.0 and the License disk as well.

When doing a fresh install the software needs to refer to a remote site to deliver an enabling code based upon the software serial number, license key, and no doubt information from the PC. The problem is the site that does this no longer seems to be running.

Anyone know how I get an enabling code for our legitimate software? The Trace GC Ultra only has one job to do for our small brewery - we would never be able to upgrade.

Thanks to anyone who can help, Jim
Hello again Jim ,

I don't know if this will work , but I can recommend the following :
Copy the licence on desktop , click the ''programs '' on the start up menu.
Locate chromquest , choose licence , and click repair licence.
Select desktop and click ok.

This is the procedure for chromquest V4.2 and may work also for your software.
Hi Uzman,
I shall give that a go tomorrow. Thank you so much for taking the time to help me. I’m hoping that Thermo will give the assistance needed. The GC is so good it would be travesty to be tripped up just by not being able to authenticate legitimate software,

I’ll report back tomorrow,

Jim
Hi Uzman, I tried your suggestion but I think that assumes you made a local backup of the activated license which if I had made one would be on the now broken computer.

In the meantime however a great chap from Unity Lab Services, Thermo Fisher Scientific, has come to my rescue. Whilst he was not able to provide the activation code because the software actually belongs to Agilent (I had not realised this), he did kingly provide me with copy of Xcalibir with the drivers for my Trace GC Ultra and I think I am now back in business.

Thanks for your help and the assistance received from Unity Lab Services,

Jim
Just some added info, and I might have some of the details wrong, "EZchrom" was a third-party software platform that vendors such as Shimadzu, Thermo, and Agilent offered, in addition to their in-house software. Each hardware vendor called it something different: Thermo, Chromquest; Shimadzu, ClassVP; Agilent, EZChrom., etc. It was created primarily by one guy. Agilent bought it about 15 years ago.

At one point, we had Thermo, Shimadzu, and Agilent GCs in our lab, but and they were all running on the same platform. Very convenient.
If Jake is correct then you might be out of luck. I had a computer die with my EZChrom on it - so, I couldn't recover the passkey needed to install it on another machine. I called Agilent and they said they couldn't help me. They had just antiquated everything to do with that software the year prior to my problem. Ugh! I had all of the software/AD conversion boxes - everything. I was forced to buy something else.
Agilent really wants you to use SubscribeNet for managing your licenses. We've been using it for 15+ years for managing the licenses on eight Agilent GCs, which range from a 6890 to 8890's, three Agilent HPLCs (including an 1100) and a MSD. It is very convenient. Fortunately all our workstations are now configured in RAID-1, so the inevitable hard-drive failure on 10+ year old hard-drives isn't a disaster. But as we've moved around various workstations, re-issuing licenses is a breeze.

Also, for those interested that must upgrade from 32-bit Win 7 to 64-bit Win 11 EZChrom, we've found the two versions essentially identical, and we can move methods and such between the two versions. Agilent will sell you the upgrade, but you'll be shocked at the cost. But hey, if you're like me and this is mandated by IT, have them pick up the tab.
Our UniChrom supports Trace-2000 and Trace Ultra under Windows, Linux and MacOS.

Also UniChrom can read all the file formats of these EzChrom clones.
