Manose and Xylose Detection

Hi all. I have a problem with mannose and xylose detection. I succeeded in fractioning Mannose and Xylose to a mixed standard. However, when dealing with the samples (hydrolyzed seaweed biomass), I could not separate them.

The GC detected around 2% Mannose in my sample (after hydrolyzing and changing into alditol acetate). Has anyone had similar problems with this issue before and might have a good solution for it?

Saccharide analysis is commonly done by HPLC with RI detection... You may well be barking up the wrong instrument.
Thanks,
