I recently got a new job where after many years of using Agilent GCs, I am now using a Thermo Scientific GC/FID. I needed to change the column for the first time today and it is STUCK in the detector. I can unscrew the nut and the ferrel comes out with it, but there is something stopping the column from coming out. It won't give...Is this normal? Chromatography with this column looked good this week. Any ideas what is going on?

Terrifying story.
Heat the detector to 100C w/o flame ignition, turn the instrument off and try again.
