Method Screening Using Empower CDS 3.8 - Seeking Advice

Hi everyone,

As the topic suggests, I have a question about how to perform method screening using the Empower CDS. We're currently implementing Empower into our routine analytical lab workflows (we previously used EZChrom OpenLab Software, which made it easy to simply add runs to an existing result set). However, we haven't yet found an efficient and convenient way to stop a running sample set, add new runs, and continue the analysis—without Empower creating a new sample set each time. This can become frustrating when we end up with 20 sample sets for a single method screening.

I would greatly appreciate hearing your ideas and practices for addressing this issue.

Thank you and best regards,
Marina

what you are looking for is "Alter running samples" (right click in running samples)

Then a copy of your sequence table will be taken and shown in the "samples"-tab, while the existing run continues (but not more).
Everything that has not yet been run (red) can be edited.
Finally make sure to click "run" (green button) again, to copy back the edited table to the runnig tab.

Also be aware, if you have already prepared a new sequence table in the "new samples" tab but haven't yet started it, then when selecting "alter running samples", this prepared table will be lost and replaced by the copy of the running samples.

Thank you Hollow, your tip is greatly appreciated!!

I am having a following question - is there a way to add few more runs to an already finished/existing sample set?

Thank you and best wishes

you're welcome

not that I'm aware off.

But there is a function called "create process only sample set", based on already run injections; I've never used it so far but I guess the idea is to build a sample set out of different injections from different samples sets which then could be processed all together like they would have been run in a single sequence.
Maybe this is what you want?

Also use the built-in help. It's huge and has a lot of information on how to do things in it.
Either use the menu\help topic (will start with the "home" screen) or in every window press F1, which then normally starts on the topic related to the actual window.

some other tips and workarounds

if you're not sure, if you need/want more samples in the current samples set, then add a pause or equilibrate step as last line, so that the sample set won't finish. Then you can add more samples with the "alter running sample" and move with the red button (abort) you can then select to abort the current line (which will be the pause or equilibration) and continue with the next line.

Also try to first use "right click" and have a look at the command. Quite often you will find it there, so no need to search through the menues or buttons.

Very nice functions are "fill down" (CTRL+D) which fills the whole column below with the entry of a cell.
Or use "auto-fill" if you want to have auto numbered pre- or sub-fixes on your sample names or a fast renumbering the vial positions.

Also the moving of single lines or arange of multiple lines is quite handy.
Just click the row header number (or select a range with shift+click) then move it up or down your list.

Thank you so so much!
It is pretty difficult but adventurous switch from EZChrom to Empower. But it's all manageable with helpful people like you!

Best Wishes
