LC/MS Recommendation

Hi, our laboratory is planning on purchasing a new instrument for PFAS analysis. I'm wondering what LC/MS people can recommend or not recommend- even if you don't use it for PFAS. Thermo Fisher is a "preferred vendor" and I'm wondering about the reliability and performance of their LCMSMS Quantis Plus. We are still considering other vendors (like Agilent, Shimadzu, etc.).
Thanks!

Do you already have a data system in place that will accommodate a LC/MS/MS from a certain vendor? If so, and if their service is not terrible, I'd lean that way, other things being equal.

No, we actually have a variety of instruments in our lab, so any vendor will work for data system reasons.

I do like Sciex instruments in terms of performance (including their sensitivity in negative mode) though I have to admit their reliability is not as good as before

you'd surely need a service contract and be prepared for random glitches and batches stopped over weekend

Thank you, yes we have a Sciex for some other methods, and it is very inconsistent not very reliable.

I have used almost exclusively Agilent instruments in the past. Have had a lot of reliability issues over the years, but the methods are fairly robust once everything is fine tuned and their service engineers are usually pretty good when you can schedule them in. Recommendation - whoever you go with, make sure you get a good service contract. Especially with a 'tricky' analysis like the PFAS methods, it may very well pay for itself many times over...
