How can I connect a Sargent Welch Recorder Model XKR to an HP 5890 GC? I do not have any serial cables that came with the unit. My predecessor used such a connection but that was in 2000 when he passed and all remains that have been misplaced. Any help on what is needed or to look for to connect?

I could have simply told you how to do this- 25 years ago.

If you post your E-mail address, I'll send you the 5890 manual in PDF. You'll need Chapter 6: Controlling signal output. I saw on p. 170 where it showed output of 0 to +0.1 mV for strip chart recorders.

Install a new communication board 19257-60010 or 19242-60030 ( ca be found on ebay)

And try our UniChrom https://www.unichrom.com/hpx890/hpx890e.shtml

WillieBill,

Did you get this resolved? KM-US is correct, the pin outs for the 5890 are in the manual and would allow you to hook to a strip chart recorder. I would rather recommend an electronic data system and there are several that are inexpensive and allow you to use a computer. Hugely advantageous over a strip chart. Can provide examples if you would like....

The other issue is, the pin outs on the 5890 limit you to just 0-1V and greatly limit your dynamic range. The detector is capable from ppm to part per 10K but the output for that is way beyond 0-1v. Unless you are working in one concentration range you are not taking advantage of the full dynamic range of the detector.

Best regards,
