Hi all,
I am looking for methods of analysis for extraction of the following from soils and to be analysed by GC.
btex compounds
pah's
total petroleum hydrocarbons
mineral oils
pcb's
phenols.

i would appreciate any help or pointing in the right direction that can be given.

thanks

Okay, somebody has to say it....

"Google search"

Also check university libraries and make use of the helpful professionals there.

www.nemi.gov is a good source for U.S. EPA methods.

Thanks for the Pointer bluejay, much appreciated

Dave,

Accustandard has EPA methods for many of those constituents as PDF files. You have to slog through both the extraction methods and the analysis methods but they are the norm in the industry (in the US.)

Best regards.

Thanks AICMM, useful link.

SW846 online. Off the top of my head looks like (analytic method/extraction method)...
8021 or 8260/5035
8270/3550-series
TPH*/3550-series
TPH*/3550-series
8082/3550-series
8270/3550-series

*TPH is state-specific in WA.

Detectors are...
FID/PID or MS
MS
FID
FID
ECD
MS

Thanks carl.nott pretty much puts an answer to nearly all my questions!!! Thanks again for you response.

As an FYI the detector list is definately not complete but those are the most common detectors in environmental labs for those analytes of interest in my experience.
