Removing detector from 6890N

I have a 6890N paired with a GC/MS. Years ago it was used with an FID and that was still installed on it. I fooled around with it a little recently and actually got it to light and give me a signal, but I don't really need it.

When the GC boots up now, I get a message about B det failing chk sum. So I thought I could just disconnect the detector. I disconnected the ribbon cables for the gasses manifold, the ribbon for the electrometer, the ignition cable and the detector heater/sensor cable. Now on startup I get B det type mismatch and B det electrometer faults.

If I try to start Chemstation, it says that the GC failed to initialize.

How do I tell this thing "the FID is gone, don't worry about it?"

Is there a button on the front keyboard for Detector On/Off?

Yep, and the flame and output are set to "off"

For "temp" it says "not installed" which I can't disagree with.

I'm retired, can't remember exactly what was included in the "Configuration Editor" mode. But maybe look at that, remove and re-configure?

Have you called Agilent for telephone technical help? At least when I was working, they could be helpful.

I think I got it figured out. I had to pull out the small FID circuit board. Then after booting the GC I used the keypad to load the default method. Chemstation opened after that and I could make a method and put in all my old settings.

We have had trouble with this before and found that you need to use the configure screen to remove the detector or inlet before actually removing them. If you don't the only thing we could make work was to reinstall the hardware, then remove in the configure screen on the instrument then remove the hardware again.

Crazy but it works.
