Hello all,

We have a GC-ECD system in our lab and it has been switched off for a long time and I want to use it. In the manual it says that, apart from the carrier gas (N2),I may need another (H2 or air) for the ECD, is it neccesary?is this information ok?

Thanks a lot

That information is incorrect. The proper makeup gas for an ECD is either nitrogen or P-5, a mixture of methane in argon. If you system uses a packed column you probably not need a makeup gas, using only the nitrogen carrier gas will work. The hydrogen and air are for an FID, not an ECD.

Thank you very much! I though I was becoming crazy with the gas! Now everything´s clear
