Can I use an Agilent 5973 EI ion source in a 5977?

I had a 5973 analyzer repaired, and it tuned fine when they did the work. I drove it back myself to avoid shipping, but now that I have it set up, the tune is bad.
I cleaned the source (the tech said it may have oxidized if I heated the source too soon after pump down), the vacuum is good, pftba good, tried old default tune, nothing.

They keep telling me it's the source. Can I test this source in a 5977 to eliminate that as the issue?

When you mention that the tune is bad, are you getting a particular error message? Are both of your filaments lighting up when the MSD switches on?

From memory the ion source assemblies are compatible between the 5973 and the 5977, but I haven't actually tested this.

Standard EI source should be forward compatible from 5973 through 5977, only the Extractor Source and HEI from the 5977 would not be backward compatible to the 5975 or 5973.
