Matrix effect:same type of tissue but from different species

Hi,

My work required a quantification of drugs in brain tissue from rats. I just wondering if I can use brain from other animals (like porcine brain) as a matrix during method development because it is readily available, cheap and large in quantity. Is there any study showing that the same tissue matrix but from different species affects analyte recovery or quantification during analysis?

Depending on the analyte (and obviously it is not going to work for anything rat-specific) you can probably use pig brain during deleopment, but be prepared to fine tune the method on rat, and validate on rat, before you generate actual results.
