DNPH Supply in the UK

Hi there,

I am wanting to use a DNPH method for the determination of formaldehyde and glutaraldehyde, however I am having trouble finding a source of DNPH in the UK.

None of my usually suppliers have been able to get any for me, with one citing transport regulations as the reason they can't get any into the UK.

Does anybody on here have a supplier of DNPH in the UK that I could try? Or of any other method for glut/formaldehyde determination that doesn't require DNPH?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is the matrix from which you want to determine these aldehydes, and what are the concentrations?

I am not in UK but as you did not post your standard suppliers, you could try sigma-aldrich as they are a large vendor/supplier, seems to have 2,4-Dinitrophenylhydrazine article: 42210 puriss. p.a., moistened with water, ≥99.0% (HPLC).

But again transport might be an issue depending on where you are, kinda sensitive stuff it seems, but the moisted one should be easier to obtain I hope.

I would also try Merck. You really shouldn't have too much trouble - as it's sold with moisture.

If you do have problems with chemical suppliers, ask the chemistry department of your local university or environmental agency where they purchase it. If you represent a reputable entity, they may even sell some to you.

For general analysis of aldehydes, DNPH is hard to beat. I would spend time hunting it down rather than looking at other methods.
