Plate count Question?

Using column 250mmx 4.6mm 5u. EP states that plate count should 8000 per metre. But when i run.... plate count is 6500. Does that mean when the EP states per metre and the column is 1/4 of a metre, that the the plate count stated in EP is divided by 4?
