Dear all,
In our lab, there's an old 5890 instrument using an HPVetra XM Series 4 as chemstation.
Recently, the power was down suddenly and the system can not link to the GC. I tried to reinstall, it does'nt work. The problem is in the cover, there is a note by HP :".. HPIB code has been set to 6", but when I go into the config, I can not set it to 6 and the software just prompts out : "only 7 to 11 are available"

Anyone knows about these old machine like that, please help.

Loss of power to the system should not cause an HPIB address to be changed. Your older Vectra computer's onboard battery could have died and is no longer providing CMOS backup power to the Motherboard to retain configuration settings, but if this were true you should have noticed that the computer lost other settings (i.e. clock time, drive settings...).

As for HPIB addresses and the Configuration Editor: Each "device" (e.g. GC, FID...) must have an HPIB address assigned. Each address can only be used once. If your system shows an address as "not available", then it has been used. You must select another one and reconfigure the Config Editor with the new value. *First, identify which HPIB addresses YOUR modules are currently set to. They each have a DIP swith which is used to set the binary address. Sounds like your HPIB Interface CARD (HP P/N 82335, 82341 or 82350A/B) is set to '6' (but can be set to any available number). Find out what addresses your other modules are actually set to and then enter these address (or update them) in the software's configuration editor application. Reboot the system (cold) and communication should be restored. *BTW: If you corrupted the software or installed a new O/S, then you will need to clean the system (win.ini & sys.ini on older systems) of the older ChemStation settings before reinstalling the software.

That old chemstation even uses Win 3.11 and I am not so quite farmiliar with that. I will check the battery and some hardwares.
