Hi, I was wondering what Purge & Trap everyone is working with. I currently am working with an old Teledyne Tekmar system, and am looking to purchase a new one. Any recommendations??
Thanks,
~Kate

Are you planning on doing both low level soils and water or just water?

Thanks Steve- Right now it's just water EPA 524.2 and will try to do 524.3. Soils would be nice in the future, but water is more of the priority.

We use the EST Encon Evolution P&T with the Centurion Autosampler. We do water and soil samples so have both options on the Autosampler. It can also be equipped with the cold plate required for 524.3 just need a recirculating chiller with it. Keeping the samples cold also help with the stability of the 524.2 samples if you have long runs and a second CCV later in the night.

They normally have good service also if there are any problems, though we never had many outside normal wear and tear.

Thanks James- I've heard a lot of good things about EST

We replaced a couple of OI concentrator / Archon P&Ts (and an Atomix) just in time for Covid shutdowns. EST was cheaper than the OI equivalents and they are easy to operate.
Their software is self contained, not loaded onto the instrument computer, so there is no problem with IT security.

Nice- the boss will probably want to go with the cheaper one anyways. Easy to operate is a plus too. Thanks Steve!

For the Encon Evolution, EST has switched to having the software on the instrument PC, which makes the unit smaller because it doesn't have the micro PC inside it anymore. This is good and bad. You have another software to run on the instrument PC, but also that was one of the parts in the past that could fail, and some of the older units are now irreparable because it is impossible to find a compatible micro PC to replace a failed one that is built inside it. The good thing is that it runs pretty much in the background and you don't need to touch it once it is started up unless you want to have more than one method for the P&T.

I still have a trio of Teledyne Tekmar Stratum purge and traps coupled into Agilent 6890/5975Cs for USEPA 8260. Setup is probably getting a bit old but they all work (to various degrees). All have the Aquatek autosamplers. Never used anything else.
