Guard column compatibility

Hello,

I would appreciate your input on this:
I need to know how to identify a compatible guard-column with a column. Any recommendations?

In specific for a SEC column 30cmx7.8mm which pre-column would be compatible: a 6.0x40mm or a 7.5cmx7.5mm (or both?)

Hello,

A single guard is prefered.

Suppliers generally advice the same diameter, but in my case, narrower works without problem.
I would rather say that the key point is to have the same gel in !
