Hardware:Thermo Trace1310 turns off 1 hour into conditioning

About a month ago a periodic grinding sound was heard from somewhere in the chassis (not in the oven) of our GC. it sounded like a bearing was dying, but only occurred for about 5 seconds at a time around twice a minute.

After a few days this noise stopped occurring.

Since then when we condition our columns (once a week we change methods and columns) after 1 hour of conditioning (250 or 270 degrees centigrade) the GC does a hard shut-down.

I'm not certain it has anything to do with the noise we heard, but the timing is suspicious.

Has anyone else experienced a problem like this?

we had oven flaps motor fail many times (more specifically, not the motor itself but the gear), so this can be the source of your grinding sound

check if flaps open and close smoothly - they can also stuck half-way open; if this happens during your column conditioning then the flow of hot air may overheat the electronics box above
