Washes

Hi!

I have a silly question.

I want to measure organochlorine pesticides in adipose tissue extracts using GC-ECD.

Which method do you think is the best for washing the column between samples? I thought about using the same method but only with solvent.

My method is quite long and I would need to process the samples in a short period of time. Do you think it´s OK if I wash the column every 2 o 3 samples?

Thank you!

Just bake out the column at the maximum temperature at the end of the run. There is no real way to wash out a CG column the same way you do an LC column. You can do a blank injection at regular intervals between samples to see if you have baked out the column adequately, but you shouldn't have to do that between every sample.

Which column are we talking about here  ?!, the one in the GC or one used for sample prep (presumably some kind of solid phase extraction or cleanup).

Hi!

Thanks for your answers. I´m talking about the GC column.

Then Ron's advice is good, but this is not washing the column with solvent. Depending on how well you are cleaning up the samples before injection you will need to be changing inlet liners quite often as well.
