Varian 3900 EPC Problem?

Discussions about GC and other "gas phase" separation techniques.

The instrument won't go to ready. It's reading 0 pressure, although it has 75 psi of head pressure. We're reading 28 ml/min through both TCD channels with a flowmeter, so I don't think we have a serious leak.

We've done the EPC calibration through the front panel three times, no help.

We've tried to do the septum purge calibration, but can't get past the input pressure line, since whatever pressure we enter, it doesn't reach (or it thinks it doesn't reach).

We've rebooted several times (if all else fails, reboot!) and this didn't help.

We haven't leak checked the column.

The septum is replaced ea 90 days, although this is a headspace method, so the septum is never pierced. Seems unlikely that we have a serious septum leak.

We're waiting on a response from Varian. Any other ideas?

if you have headspace try to bypass system and run gc standalone. Maybe the leak is in headspace sampler (broken transfer line, etc)

good luck
