I am getting the errors "trouble with HED MS status = 2" (large peak). I have cleaned the source and the filaments (brand new) and EM horn (about 6 mon old) are fairly new. I have take the senstivity down to a voltage where it should see nothing (100EMV). My pressure is 1.2E-5, and so assume there are no leaks big enough to change this error. All the MS status test (I/O tests etc.) all pass. I cannot tune, basically the MSD does not turn on.
I want to say that this is an electronic or software problem but over all I am not sure. I just wanted to make sure that I have thought of everything.

Thanks!

Once I had an MS that would turn on and pump down fine. It would initialize fine. Basically, you could do everything except see peaks. Turned out to be the ribbon cable connecting the top plate (5972 MSD) to the electronics had a break inside it.

I actually took that ribbon cable off and got a different error that ended up being related to the emission current. I had to call it in and bring someone in becuase I think its going to be the HED voltage supply.

Sorry, I missed the HED part... I just read where you said you can do everything but tune and it made me think that would be an easy thing to check.

Best of luck with your repairs.

thanks for your response. I still appreciate it.

This problem ended up being the high voltage supply for the HED.
