1/16" -> 1/32" Tubing

Is it safe to replace 1/16" SS tubing with 1/32" tubing in connection with conventional HPLC-columns or will the small-diameter-tubing damage the port?

If you have the proper ferrules to make a seal I can't imagine how you might damage the column. But why do it? Tubing isn't that expensive. Can you remove all the dead space?
