Hi, just started a job :) with this piece of kit :?: and have never used anything other than HP, has anybody got any comparisons, anything good or bad to look out for?

If you are not familiar with the equipment call the Shimadzu toll free line for you local regional office and talk to them about the possibility of some on-site familiarization. I would assume that you have in-house resources that are familiar with the Shimadzu, and they should be able to answer some of you questions.

The Shimadzu is a good instrument, it is different than the Agilent and there is a learning curve involved. Some of the vocabulary is different, and some of the functions may be called by a diffrent name. The help files are decent, and can help with most basic questions.

If there is no in-house expertise for the instrument, you might want to talk to your supervisor about a training course in proper use and preventive maintenance. This applies to all instruments, not just this one.
