what is the significance of column packing arrangement

please tell me the significance of different column stationary phase packings like L1, L13, L3 n analysis and what are they stands for...
please also provide me with some material available on line to read..

should be available in any column manufacturer catalogue
these stand for different stationary phases, like C18 for L1

Many years ago, the USP decided that they were not going to "endorse" specific columns, but rather cite broad categories. L1 (C18) was the first. At the time there were only a small number of C18 stationary phases available, and it was not yet evident how much variability there could be.
Subsequently, more sophisticated ways of evaluating column similarities have been developed. You can look at the links referenced on the USP columns selectivity databases for more information:
