Hi,

Could you please help me out to select the standards along with its concentration details for FID, ECD and TCD detector with Agilent GC 7890 for Instrument qualification. I need the standard details for both ALS and Head Space.

For each detector there is an installation guide, published by Agilent.

Use their test mix for each of the particular detectors. They have their own part numbers and you can order them directly from Agilent.

That would be the best way to determine if your detector is still working as it should be working. You can document your detector from the very beginning and its response to the Agilent text mix to see if anything changes over time after the initial installation.

Thanks Rodney George for your information.

But my condition is, i should not use Agilent Standards to perform the qualification of the instrument. In this case, Do you suggest any standards for those detectors with ALS and G18888 head space.

I have no justification to suggest standards other than the manufacturer's.

I hope you can justify your decision to your regulatory authorities. I do not know how this can be accomplished by ignoring the original operating specifications in qualifying your detectors.

But, I wish you success.

Hi Rodney,

You said "I have no justification to suggest standards other than the manufacturer's. " - Do you have any other manufacture standard details other than Agilent ?

Hi

The details can be found on agilents hompage (just use their search tool) or in their catalogues Headspace OQ/PV sample for instance: http://www.chem.agilent.com/Library/msds/G1888Asn.pdf

Are you trying to save money by sourcing standards from another supplier? In that case it can be tricky I suppose but there are some "well known" suppliers that makes custom standards and have a few generic test standards/mixtures, for example FLUKA/Supelco.

However I have not used them myself apart for some column test mixtures and I am not sure if it is worth it either.

And as Rodney mentioned, depending on your field of work, changing source of standards for instrument qualification/periodic controls, may require a certain amount of justification/testing.

There are other manufacturers of detectors. They have their own mixes they use to check the detector operation. You can get the specs of any manufacturer's mix and have another vendor prepare a mix or even do it yourself. Eventually, you will have to compare any mix you use to the original mix used by the manufacturer, right? Otherwise how will you know it is operating according its design and performance criteria?

That is my point. Don't forget to document your testing and comparison. Otherwise your claim of performance has no proof. And that is your goal, is it not?

Thanks Rodney,

You said " Eventually, you will have to compare any mix you use to the original mix used by the manufacturer, right?" - You are cent percent correct.

My condition is I'm not supposed to use Agilent standards to qualify their detectors [TCD,FID and ECD].

I got an link while googling. Please find the link below where it states the qualification of GC instrument with FID detector with different standards which is not used by Agilent.

http://www.edqm.eu/medias/fichiers/Anne ... ipment.pdf

In similar way i require for TCD and ECD detector which has to be performed on both Liquid sampler and Head space sampler. So could you please suggest any standard to be used for those detectors and those standards should not be used by Agilent.
