Dear sir,
I would like to know what would be the best columns and valve configuration to use for analysis of ppm N2 in pure Krypton.
I tried with a long Molecular Sieve 5A, but both peaks coelute together.

Thanks for your help.

You can see from the reference a capillary MS5A will not work for ppm analysis of N2 in Kr.

Call Supelco Tech Service and they can tell you how you can do the analysis with 3 feet of packed columns, a 12 inch and a 24 inch.

I don't work for Supelco but I did, and I told them how to do this analysis.

Hi Rodney,
Could you please let me know what would be your suggestion of columns and configuration. You gave me some good suggestions in the past that have worked.
I will contact Supelco after to order the necessary parts.
thank you

The configuration is a two column heart-cut with backflush.

The nitrogen elutes at about 1/4th the time of krypton, about 12 seconds at the beginning of the heart-cut, the cut being about 6 to 12 seconds in width, and then the backflush is operated.

You may be able to do a simple backflush to vent, but I suggest that you don't for best results. If it doesn't give you a high background with your detector, go ahead and do a simple backflush at about 30-35 seconds.

Other details you can discuss with Supelco Technical Service.

How does it feel to get $5000 worth of information for FREE ? :D
