Chose which one, Agilent 6410 or ABI 3200 (refurbished)?

My boss want to buy a LC/MS/MS. We have a big different oppion about what instrument shoud be choes.

He Considered to buy the ABI 3200 (refurbished) instrument. Because this instrument has the same price with the agilent 6410. And he heard that the 6410 is not reliable instrument.

But I prefer to buy the new ABI3200, if no enough money we should buy agilent 6410. I am very worry about the refurbished instrument have some problem when it used. And we do not know what problem and history of the refurbished ABI 3200.
But my boss said this ABI has good warranty if has problem, they will resposibly to repaire. But for me, I do not want to wast time to repaire it.

Dose someone has experiences about refurbished instument? IS REFURBISHED instument working good?
I want to pursuade my boss. :?
Thanks

Buying refurbished can be a very good way to get lower cost kit. The key questions are how old and warranty ? Manufacturers get rid of demo kit at a reduced price and provided they are stil current represent a great saving vs new for little if any disadvantage. If the kit is current version with the same warranty go pre owned 8)

I am with you. 3200 is no longer a mainstream player, but 6410 is.

Also Agilent has a policy that most of their equipment is upgradeable to their best new equipment and it comes with a 10 year service/parts guarantee....can't say the same for the 3200 except if you want more sensitivity after you purchase the 3200 you will need to purchase a new instrumetn as the 3200 aren't upgradeable....
