Greater detector noise after switching columns and jet

I just switched columns on an HP5890, and also since the columns had a different ID I had to switch the jet as well.

I have always had very smooth peaks and baseline, but on my first run (blank) the noise was dramatic such that the baseline looked 3-5 times thicker due to signal fluctuation.

Could someone please help me troubleshoot this. I am about to try reconnecting the column to the detector making sure the measure is the proper distance. Any other suggestions? Is it possible I didn't put jet in right (eg. too tight/not tight enough)?

I thank everyone on this forum, as I have learned so much since I became a member.

OK problem fixed.

I apologize -- I should not have raced to my computer so fast assuming it was something totally unmanageable. After reconnecting column at detector end, reinstalling jet, and readjusting air and hydrogen flows to optimal, the baseline noise was eliminated.

Again, thanks to all those who so willingly share their special knowledge and experience!
