We have several older Shimadzu HPLC systems with UV detectors connected to Chromperfect software..We are looking to get a DAD to connect to the LC for among others glycosides analysis from onions. We found a few used Shimadzu DAD for $2-5k but so far not any software or boards. The version of Chromperfect we have doesn't have any spectra analysis features so we would need new software. Any suggestions on hos to do this for not too much $ ??
Our other option is to buy an older complete system including DAD, software etc. We have come across some Agilent 1050 and 1090s with DAD for ~$5-8 k used though I know those can be costly to maintain...I'd rather adapt the Shimadzu DAD if it can be done...
Thanks!
Eric

I doubt you can "adapt" your software to a Shimadzu DAD, but there should be Shimadzu DADs available with software and (possibly) PCs. Shimadzu currently(?) has a couple of versions of their DAD software - the cheap one (fully functional for acquisition or processing, not CFR21 part 11 compliant) and the expensive one (can acquire and process data concurrently, is CFR compliant).
Thanks,
DR

Thanks for the info! Maybe I should of posted this under data systems?
I've asked Shimadzu for a quote for their software and if it supports the older 10 series instruments especially the DAD...We have no problems with Chrom Perfect but it doesn't have any spectra tools for the DAD...We have asked the makers of Chrom Perfect if their newer versions have DAD sotware just to make sure but haven't heard back...We're pursuing several leads on used Shimadzu systems with DAD and trying to find ones with the boards and software on LAbx, AIR, kitmondo, spectra,etc...
Eric

I don't think that you can "adapt" your software to the DAD. The UV detector signal comes in over a serial communications connection, the DAD uses SCSI communications, so that is probably a huge hurdle. The new Shimadzu software supports most of the older 10 series components, if you have the 10VP series all should be well.

Thanks! The Chrom Perfect folks just told us the newest version doesn't have any DAD features so we will need new software as you said...I didn't know the DAD used SCSI thanks-Looks like our only option is a used Shimadzu DAD with boards and software....
We were given the option from one supplier of buying:

Shimadzu SPD-M10Avp Diode Array Detector $4500
or
Shimadzu SPD-M10 Diode Array Detector $2700

with
software P/N: 223-181150-92; L/N: 8161xxxxx
S/N: C50753800007 TH, Class-VP Agent Software (it is still sealed)
$1500

and a free cable to go from the DAD to our older 10 series controller

Anybody know if this is going to work? Sotware gonna work with either of the DAD?
Someone emailed me Class VP is junk don't use it but what other options do we have? (besides spending $5k+ on chemstation)
Anybody have suggestions on which DAD to buy? Since we have an older 10 series not 10vp do we really need the 10vp?

thanks Eg

I think most reasonable to buy SPD-M10 detector and clarity software for control all your shimadzu modules, it is better than old shimadzu soft and support many of hplc brands. More inforrmation you can find with this link http://www.dataapex.com/product.php?id= ... _Detectors

I use Class VP (with an SPD-M10Avp) and I wouldn't say it is junk, though some older versions have compatability issues with newer versions of Windows. Don't know what version you have, we upgraded to v 7.4 a couple of years ago after having problems with an older version of Class-VP and Windows XP (though an older copy of XP worked fine with the older version of Class-VP). Class VP is Shimadzu's brand of EZChrom, now owned by Agilent. Will it work? You need to have the DAD (or PDA) option for the software. Don't know if the version you have has it "enabled". The vp is the newer version of the DAD so the one for sale is likely newer and have support longer than the SPD-M10. Good luck.

Elsico-Thanks for the info and the link! Unfortuanately the table only shows support for the SCL-10AVP controller not the SCL-10A which we have and only for the SPD-M10AVP not the SPD-M10...So we would have to buy a new controller and the higher end SPD-M10VAP as well as the software..I'll look into the price of clarity..

Russ, Thanks for the info! The only info I have on the Class VP software for sale is the part#s I provided in the post...I'll ask them for the version # and make sure it's compatable with our systems. We are using Windows 2000 on most of our computers but can easily buy XP or whatever for one computer to run this software..I'll also ask about the PDA option as they didn't mention it..

I'm not sure exactly what the sofware is, the part number is not a valid Shimadzu part number, but from the item description I am almost positive it will not work. If you want Shimadzu software you need the version of CLASS-VP which is called EZSTART. This is a somewhat stripped down version of CLASS-VP, but it does include instrument contro and PDA control in the price. The bad news is I don't know if supports the SCL-10A, or if you need an SCL-10Avp, I suspect the latter, and you would need the vp series PDA.

10A series Shimadzu LC products are at least 10 years old. That doesn't mean they don't have years of use left, just that hardware and software support will last longer for the 10Avp series. To me the software support is more critical, I expect that the hardware parts will be available for years to come.

Ron,
Thanks for the info!
The seller agrees that it does not support DAD so we are back to square 1. We also found out that LCsolution only supports 10AVP and up and I just looked up Ezstart and it only supports 10avp and above so nothing will work so far..Clarity also will only support 10avp and above...so dumb question what software did the original 10 series (SPD-M10) PDA work with and is it available for sale???
Otherwise used a SPD-M1oavp DAD is $5k, a 10avp controller is ~$2k and then we need to make sure the other 10 series components will work with the 10avp and then LCsolution with DAD is ~$3770 so over $10k for as you say used and quite old equipment....still searching!
Eric

The 10A series ran on CLASS-VP 4.3, and that has been obsolete for years. It also would require a computer with an old operating systems. I would give Shimadzu a call to see if the pumps will work with newer software, there is a possibility that they will with a ROM upgrade. A few years ago I upgraded some 20 year old LC-6A pumps to operate with LCsolution after a ROM upgrade and a new controller.

Ron,
Thanks again for your help! I renewed a good contact at Shimadzu (Steve Miller) who is close by so I'll ask him about the pump upgrade...I tried looking for used copies of Class-VP 4.3 no luck so far....we can run on older OS on the computer no problem as we have several w98 machines for older HP stuff...I found a used 10 series PDA for $2500 so if we could get the Class VP 4.3 for cheap that would be much cheaper than the $10k plus we are looking at for the 10avp...I'll start looking for more recent used Shimadzu systems see what prices are as well...
Eric
Hi, I´m new at this board, but I´m actually looking for the DAD cable specs that conects Shimadzu DAD to the computer....

Actually, we have a DAD HPLC system running..... it´s connected by a SCSI board AH-2940U from adaptec....

The software is CLASS-VP 5.3, and I have this CD....the problem is connecting the pumps to be recognized by the controller that shoulb be from another brand....

Please tell me if you have the correct DAD cable male pineage and tell me if you would like to test the software....

cya....sorry if I broke some rulez here....I´m newbie.....
