Agilent buy Varian

First casualty of the global financial meltdown ?
Just had my letter telling me of this, is there a reason other than economics that it has happened ? Any guesses which if any Varian Chromatography products will survive vs the Agilent equivalent ? Are they close to monopoly in any countries with GC Column sales ?

Speculation in the US business press is that the "crown jewel" was Varian's spectroscopy business.

They also have some emeralds in the LC-buisiness like the SD-1 pumps
I hope these pumps will survive this
